Location Independence In Real Life

Location Independence In Real Life

Renting & Living 2 comments 1201

Creating a whole new meaning of trailer life

Welcome back to those childhood memories where picture book characters would turn all kinds of their furniture, their cars or even their bed into a mobile home and then take off with it. Only difference: this time it is real.

From compact houses to mobile houses

With a profound history in hand-crafting energy-efficient compact houses the US based innovateurs operating under the unimpressive name of Private Propterties LLC have come up with another ingenious idea.

Another definition of location independence

Why not take the idea of uniquely built compact houses and turn them into the upscale version of a mobile home? That is exactly what has been done and the outcome is stupendous. Named the Escape Traveler the newfound form of mobile accommoation leaves nothing to chance. Every Escape Traveler is a self-contained single piece that fullfils the highest standards in insulation, energy efficience and eco-friendliness.

With measurements of 24 feet x 8,5 feet x 13,5 feet (7,30m length x 2,60m height x 4,10m width) the Escape Traveler can be used with any average pick-up truck.

The downside

There is one larger drawback from a European point of view: the average weight of more than 9,5 tons (9500kg) incites the need to ugrade one’s driver’s license to that of driving full-grown trucks. Most European countries only permit a maxium weight of 3,5 tons for your vehicle.

Feel-at-home-feeling – anywhere

If that doesn’t deter you then the interior will have you intrigiued. From a queen-size double bed to a full-size kitchen and even a washing machine the Escape Traveler contains everything that will make up for the comfort you are used from a regular home. The pictures speak for themselves.

Not really a bargain at $65,400 onwards (~57.700€, washing machine and laminate floor are extra) the Escape Traveler seems like a perfect option for those living in countries with spacious nature and more horse power-laden cars, e.g the US or Canada.

Still, the idea of traveling through a North American nature reserve the size of Italy while having your fully-equipped home right by your side is being as location independent as it probably gets.

Great idea but the problem in the UK for instance is that you still need land to park it on and it’s the price of land that’s the issue!

True. And since you will need electricity you will basically depend on camping sites and the like. The EscapeTraveler itself is cool, but I think it’s more for peope into camping than for those who are into location independence.
